Privacy Policy

Short version: there are no accounts, nothing is sold, and the only information you hand over deliberately is whatever you type into the contact form.

What we collect

The contact form. If you write to us, we store the name, email address, subject and message you send, along with the date and the country your request came from. We keep it so we can reply and so we have a record of corrections and takedown requests. Nothing else on this site asks you for personal information.

Server logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like every host, it processes the IP address, approximate location, browser and requested page for each visit in order to serve the page and block abuse. We do not join those logs to anything else and we do not use them to identify individuals.

Analytics. We may use a privacy focused analytics service that counts visits without cookies and without profiling individuals. If we ever add a service that sets cookies for analytics, this page will say so by name before it goes live.

Advertising

This site carries advertising from third party networks. Those networks may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and may use them to measure and personalise the adverts you see, which is outside our control and governed by their own policies rather than this one. Where the law requires consent for that, you will be asked before any non essential cookie is set, and you can decline and still read everything here.

Some outbound links to website builders, hosting companies and similar services are affiliate links. Following one may tell that company we sent you. It costs you nothing and changes nothing about what we write.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not run a newsletter, so you cannot be added to a mailing list by accident. We do not build advertising profiles ourselves. There are no user accounts, so there is nothing to breach beyond the contact messages described above.

How long we keep things

Contact messages are kept for two years and then deleted, except where a takedown or correction record needs to be kept longer to show what was done and when. Host logs are kept for the short period our provider retains them, typically days rather than months.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, and we will do it. If you are in the UK, the EU, or a US state with its own privacy law, those rights are yours by statute and we apply them to everybody anyway. Write to us through the contact page and say what you want done. We do not charge for this and we do not require you to prove your identity beyond enough to be sure we are answering the right person.

Children

This is a reference site for people buying and building business websites. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, the date below changes with it and the change is described in a line at the top. Minor wording fixes are made without ceremony.
